Mobile wallets like Paytm, PhonePe, Payumoney, Mobikwik and much more have seen a massive increase in digital transactions and user base after demonetization. As a result of the increased user base, Paytm now have enabled the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) on its iOS and Android apps.
In the previous update, Paytm already allows its users to add money to the wallet via credit card, net banking, and debit cards. Now using your UPI ID, you can easily add money to your Paytm wallet without the help of debit or credit cards. All you need is just a UPI-enabled app like BHIM and the Paytm app on your Smartphone.
Let’s see how you can add money to Paytm wallet using UPI with this step by step guide given below.
How To Add Money To Paytm Wallet Using UPI

Step 1: Open the “Paytm” app from your Android app drawer.
Step 2: On the homepage of the app, click “Add Money” as shown below.
Step 3: In the next screen, you will be asked to enter the amount that you would like to add to your Paytm Wallet. Enter the amount and hit “Add Money“.
Step 4: Next, you will be taken to the payments page. Scroll down and tap “BHIM UPI” from the options available.
Step 5: On the next page, you need to enter your UPI ID, i.e., your Virtual Payment Address. Enter your UPI ID in the text box given there and click “Pay Now“.
Step 6: A request will be now sent to your BHIM app from the Paytm. You will also receive a notification SMS for the request raised.
Step 7: Now login to your BHIM App (for this illustration purpose, I am going to use United Bank of India BHIM app). On the Home Page select “Pending Approval“.
Step 8: On the next page, you can see the Paytm request. Tap on the request to open it. Next, confirm the money and scroll down to the bottom.
Step 9: Tap on “Approve” to approve the request.
Step 10: You need to enter your UPI PIN on the next page to ensure a secure transaction.
That’s it. Now the amount will be successfully added to your Paytm wallet, and you can verify the same by checking updated wallet balance on your Paytm app. Also, you will receive a confirmation SMS.
Things To Remember
- This feature of Paytm is available in the web interface, Android, and iOS App.
- You must have a UPI enabled app on your Android Smartphone and a Virtual Payment Address to be able to add money using this method.
- As per RBI Guidelines, you can add only up to 20,000 INR per transaction.
- You will not be charged to add money to your Paytm wallet.
